COLOR! Trends We See In 2012

Posted by: brandtsadmin

For many years interior fashions were dominated by very neutral colors. Some would say drab even. The trend in 2012 is changing and color is becoming a large part of interior design projects.

Bold Wallpaper Graphics
Wallpaper had been reserved for use in formal dining room or outdated powder rooms. That is not the case in 2012. Wallpaper is experiencing a revival. Recent updates to wallpaper has made it relevant again. One great update is the emergence of decorative stencils. Bold graphic stencils will be a hot trend and can easily be painted over when the interior fashions change.

Green Is The New Neutral
Green is the new neutral. Shades of green are the most versatile color option for interior fashion. However many designers will tell you to avoid neon and lime color shades of green. Those colors are simply not shades that work well for interior fashion projects. The key to successful use of shades of green is knowing how to use them properly and what to mix them with. There are certain shades of green that should not be used together because they cause negative contrasting. So don’t be afraid to go green. Green shades work well when contrasting against many colors of the color wheel.

Bring Nature In
Interior fashions have been enhanced by the use of imitation real wood as accents, however 2012 is the year for introducing real natural elements into home decor. The use of real woods, seashells and natural grasses within interior design projects has brought more real life nature into homes.

Another Color To Watch: Tangerine Tango
Pantone® the global authority on color recently name Tangerine Tango as the 2012 Color of the Year. How will this color be incorporated into home decor? That is something we are curious to know. If you have an interior fashion project using Tangerine Tango you’d like to share with us, please let us know. We’d love to add it to our Pinterest boards as interior fashions we love.

Choosing Colors and Patterns

Selecting colors and patterns is the next progression of understanding the proper use of fabrics in an interior design project. Many times the best way to select a fabric is to go with your instincts.
